Intel Science scholarship program

This program was first established in 1998 by the Intel Corporation who took over a program previously sponsored by Westinghouse Foundation.

The scholarship recognises and awards significant funding to students who excel in the fields of science and technology.

The forty lucky finalists for the Intel scholarship program at the White House in 2005The scheme is highly competitive and only 300 students will receive any award, and just five will receive substantial scholarships or bursaries.

The aim is to encourage students to embark on further education in the areas of Physics and Chemistry, and then to pursue degree courses in Engineering, Applied Science or the Computer Sciences.

Science Talent Search (STS)

Since the second world war, the Science Service has enabled high school students to be recognised for their scientific research.

Nearly $4 million has been awarded by this program - with students submitting papers on their research project, and the top 300 applicants receiving small prizes.

Finalists are rewarded with scholarships in excess of $20,000, with all finalists receiving at least $5000, as well as the high press coverage that this competition attracts.

Awards in 2007

Forty finalists had the privilege of displaying their projects at the National Institute of Science and meeting government officials.

The winner in 2007 was Mary Masterman winning the annual Intel Talent Search by creating a cheap, but accurate spectograph.

She was rewarded with a scholarship of $100,000 as well as the kudos and prestige that comes from winning such a high profile prize.
